Dr. Joseph P. Vacanti, Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, an Omaha native and alumnus of Creighton Prep and Creighton University, will be receiving the Alumni Achievement Citation (together with his brothers) at the Commencement Ceremony on May 14, 2005.  During his visit back to Omaha for this event, he has agreed to give a presentation on his groundbreaking research. Dr. Vacanti will show us how they have been able to generate live, functional organs, starting from a few cells, in his laboratory. Given the scarcity of organs for transplantation, and the increasing need for the procedure, this technology could have huge consequences for healthcare in the future.
