Chairman's Statement

The mission of Creighton University's Department of Pediatrics is to provide compassionate care to children, promote an understanding of childhood diseases, and educate future physicians to become competent clinicians.

The Department of Pediatrics is comprised of 22 full-time, 14 part-time and 78 affiliated members. These faculty members are dedicated to the training of students and residents.

The faculty provides complete services for infants and children from well-baby visits to tertiary care. Forty general pediatricians are located at ten clinic sites offering primary care services to the Omaha metropolitan community.

Subspecialty services are provided at a number of local hospitals including Children's Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Bergan-Mercy Medical Center, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Creighton faculty members direct and staff the Pediatric Inpatient Care Service at Children's Hospital.

Several joint divisions exist between the Creighton Department of Pediatrics and the University of Nebraska Medical Center Department of Pediatrics. These two schools of medicine have combined expertise to sponsor a Joint Pediatric Residency Program. Creighton University also sponsors a Medicine/ Pediatrics Residency Program. These residency programs train future physicians with the necessary skills, knowledge, judgement and confidence to serve pediatric needs of our community.

The faculty participates in clinical and basic science research projects funded through numerous organizations, foundations, and grants. We are dedicated to promoting scholarship and conducting research to improve the practice and teaching of medicine and to enhance the quality of life.
