Dear Alumni and Friends of Phi Chi,
Greetings from all of us at Phi Chi! As a new year has started up, we wanted to update all of the alumni on the status of our chapter and house. Last year year we had three M4’s graduate, one lower classman move out, and we have accepted five incoming M1’s. As per usual, we also hosted the annual Halloween party last October, inducted seven M1’s in February, and were one of the featured filming locations for the senior video!
Our Vision
This year marks the one hundredth anniversary for the Hartmann House, which the Chi Upsilon Chapter has called home since the late 50’s. As the time and energy requirements in the life of a medical student are inevitably demanding, various house construction projects were being continuously postponed. Seeing the accumulation of some of these projects, and being the centennial anniversary of the house, we decided it to be a good time to begin a capital campaign to repair, restore, and renovate some areas of our house so that Chi Upsilon may continue to attract and maintain quality members for many years to come.
Our Goals
Here is a list of summer projects that were requiring immediate attention before the commencement of the 2006-2007 academic year. These summer projects were be covered with the surplus of funds from rent charges from the previous academic year. They include:
-renovating the 2nd floor bathroom $6,500
-replacing the ceiling in the master bedroom $1,000
-work on 3rd floor bathroom $500
As you can see from the pictures at the bottom of the page, the ceiling in the master bedroom has been completed and looks great. The second floor bathroom was a huge project and, as such, is still in progress, with the shower and tile installed, awaiting some more plumbing and accessories. The third floor bathroom was postponed once again until we finish up with the second floor. There are only so many showers that you can shut down at once before the masses get restless...
Our long-term goals of renovating and restoring some of the common rooms in the house are motivated by wanting to improve energy efficiency, improving the ambiance and keeping the house up to code (replacing old windows, replacing worn-out furniture and carpet, upgrading electrical wiring, etc.).
Our Plan
We have a centennial capital campaign goal of twenty thousand dollars. This amount would cover all said projects, as well as provide a cash cushion for addressing future needs as they arise. We have decided to display a list of donors on a plaque in the entryway, who make contributions during this campaign by increments of $100, $500, $1,000, and $5,000 or greater toward the renovation our house.
Capital campaigns are an exciting time to donate, but we also appreciate the smaller yearly donations, which help to keep our account in the black year-in and year-out. We are a non-profit, tax deductible organization, and our tax exemption number is included on the enclosed return slip of paper. If you make note of this number, you can use this on your tax claim for your deduction.
We are excited for the upcoming year and welcoming new individuals into our house that will join our network of Phi Chi members, but we need your help to continue maintaining the Hartmann house and passing down the traditions of the Chi Upsilon chapter. Feel free to contact and visit us if you will be in the area any time soon, whether for a class reunion, dropping off a family member at Creighton, or any other reason; we would be happy to meet you and to show you around the house! Otherwise, make sure to check the website and alumni link for updates, as we continue to develop our alumni network and resources.
Thank you from all of us at Phi Chi!!
