OBJECTIVES

2005-2006

Clinical Objectives

C1.          Undertake new quality improvement projects in divisions with performance below expected on quarterly report card.

C2.          Work with hospital in expanding core measures of quality of care to include DVT prophylaxis and Beta-blockers in non-cardiac surgery.

C3.          Review and track divisional faculty recruitment.

C4.          Work on developing peer quality measures for general internal medicine.

C5.          Work with the hospital to improve the discharge process and reduce errors in medication reconciliation.

C6.          Develop process to correctly identify admitting and attending physicians.

C7.          Evaluate out sourcing transcription to improve timeliness of referring physician communication.

C8.          Implement clinical component of airway center contingent on space available.

C9.          Continue program planning for West Omaha and “602 North 30th” Ambulatory Care locations.

 

Medical Education Objectives

ME1.       Expand LARA for all residents in internal medicine and med/peds.

ME2.       Develop Geriatrics faculty leadership and curriculum.

ME3.       Establish a “Come Home to Creighton” alumni event.

ME4.       Develop a system for tracking face to face feedback for residents and students.

ME5.       Develop internet based grading for all internal medicine student courses.

ME6.       Expand rotation options for inpatient medicine clerkship.

ME7.       Improve consistency of teaching and student evaluation in M2 small groups.

ME8.       Expand research elective options for medical students.

ME9.       Expand teaching on genetics and family history in ambulatory care.

ME10.   Increase medical education research activities (projects, presentations at ME research meetings, article submissions) in the Department.

Research Objectives

R1.    Recruit additional investigators into the Department to enhance existing areas of research expertise.

R2.    Develop plan for expanding CU DOM research at Omaha VAMC.

R3.   Identify and foster research areas of expertise including multi-disciplinary research programs investigating 
         pathogenic mechanisms and innovative treatments.

R4.   Expand research training opportunities for medical students and residents.

R5.  Develop research programs in every Division that are funded through outside sources

Academic Objectives

A1.              Continue Annual report and newsletter to enhance institutional and community visibility of faculty accomplishments.

A2.              Add highlights of faculty “Professional and Community Service” to newsletters and Annual Report

A3.              Identify resources to upgrade and maintain department website.

A4.              Survey recipients of Department Newsletter (and Annual Report) to identify potential improvements

 

Central Administration Objectives

CA1.        Work with CMA on development of EMR.

CA2.        Develop proposal for revised faculty compensation and incentive plan.

CA3.        Work to establish and grow endowments

CA4.        Work with CMA and Dean’s office on enhanced department space, including

·         Airway Center and Heme/onc (immediate)

·         New main campus ambulatory care building

·         CUMC “backfill” renovations for program enhancement (eg Endocrine, GI)

·         CUMC West
