This policy supplements the Creighton University Policy on Computer Practices contained in the University Policy Manual. The purpose of this policy is to assure reasonable and appropriate use of computer equipment within the Department of Medicine. The policy is applicable to all department employees, residents and students involved in educational activities within the department. Use of department computer resources is authorized by the department or division systems administrator.
1. Authorized users are not permitted to alter any software that has been provided by the University without the express permission of the department or division system administrator. Users will be required to sign the copyright acknowledgement attached to the policy before being granted access to use any university owned computer.
2. Authorized users may not add or download any software without the approval of the department or division system administrator. This includes such items such as screen savers, calendars, games, etc.
3. Authorized users may use computers on a limited basis during non-working business hours (includes lunch periods) for personal needs when the use does not conflict or interfere with the official use of the computer. Such personal uses are restricted to sending or receiving personal e-mail, reading article news updates, performing limited searches over the Internet to support personal educational activities, and other similar uses.
4. There shall be no access to such sites as Napster and/or any site containing pornographic or illicit material.
5. Employees understand that their use of the department computers may be subject to monitoring to determine if they are using computer resources appropriately.
ADMINISTRATION
This policy shall be administered by the Department Administrator, Department and Division Systems Administrator, Division Chiefs, Center Administrators, Operations Managers, and Section Managers. Department employees found in non-compliance with this policy may be subject to administrative or disciplinary action including termination. Employees will be asked to acknowledge their receipt of this policy and their written agreement that they will comply with these policies as outlined herein.
