2. The policy also includes specific guidance on how to obtain department approval for research development projects that propose to commit resources available to Creighton University (e.g. HFF, LB 595 funds through CU, LB 692 funds through CU). The Department of Medicine has established Strategic Goals for Research. This review process has been established to ensure concordance of new research development proposals with the Department’s Research Goals and priorities before approving applications for submission. To accomplish this, the following guidelines need to be followed by the Faculty:
1. All Proposals:
a. All proposals should be submitted to the Office of the Chair one week before the application deadline, when feasible.
b. Proposals should normally include a completed Creighton University “Green Sheet” proposal routing form with all required signatures. For non-tenured faculty, their respective division chief must also approve the request.
c. Proposals must include a project budget and indirect cost rate. Any requests that do not include indirect costs at the required federal or non-federal rate must include a request for waiver and identify the division that will be responsible for covering university assigned overhead costs.
d. Proposals that include a university “cost share” or “match” must indicate the funding source that is committed to provide the required support.
e. Proposals that require additional space, staffing, or resources must include written assurances that the resources will be made available to support the proposal.
2. Proposals that exceed $50,000 in total direct costs for research development resources available to Creighton University (e.g. HFF, Tenet Foundation, LB 595 funds thru CU, LB 692 funds thru CU).
a. Submit the following Request for Approval for Intramural Grants in paper and electronic form (as Word attachment) at least two weeks (10 working days) before the application deadline. This gives the Chair’s office in the Department of Medicine time to review and make recommendations in time for clarification/modification prior to submission.
b. The Chair’s office will provide a response (e.g., Approval to submit; Approval to submit with clarifications; Not approved for submission) within 5 working days.
c. Approved Applications may then be submitted following usual Department processes for “green sheet” approval as outlined in paragraph 1.
d. Applications receiving “Approval to submit with clarifications” or “Not approved for submission” maybe resubmitted 2 working days prior to the CU deadline for re consideration by the Office of the Chair; these resubmissions must include a modified Request for Approval Form for Intramural Grants highlighting changes to achieve compatibility with department research development priorities.
e. Consultation with the Chair, the Associate Chair of Research, and/or the Assistant Chair for Clinical Research, is encouraged prior to drafting applications and “Request for Approval for Intramural Grants Forms” in order to improve efficient preparation of successful applications.
