"We have expanded our Program to encompass the skills and the knowledge base needed in the ambulatory setting." Joann Derby Porter, MD |
The Health Sciences Library at Creighton University is located next door to Saint Joseph Hospital. This large modern facility contains over 200,000 volumes and maintains subscriptions to over 1,600 periodic publications. In addition to this, residents have 24-hour access to the Department of Medicine library which contains up-to-date issues of all major medical journals, as well as current copies of all major textbooks in internal medicine and its various subspecialties. The residents have 24-hour access to computer services with Internet and Medline capability, free e-mail, access to duplicating, fax and secretarial services as needed. Computer Aided Instruction Lab The knowledge base that physicians must maintain is increasing daily. This fact has been coupled with the recent explosion of the field of medical informatics. The Department believes that we must prepare our residents to fully participate in the utilization of this technology. We have in place a program to provide the residents with instruction on the various electronic media resources that are available. Throughout the first year, residents will participate in workshops to learn how to best utilize this technology. We hope that this will help develop skills that they will continue to use throughout their professional lives. The computer lab is located within the Department. |
