Go Red For Women is a nationwide movement celebrating the energy, passion and power we have to band together and wipe out heart disease. Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women - and of men - but the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. Spreading the Go Red For Women message empowers women to love - and save - their hearts through lifestyle choices and actions.

Creighton University, Creighton University Medical Center and The Cardiac Center are celebrating Heart Month with two events, Girls’ Night Out and the Wear Red Reception.

The third annual, city-wide "Girls’ Night Out" is a fund-raiser designed to increase awareness about women and heart disease. The event will be held on Thursday, February 2, from 5-10 PM at participating restaurants throughout the Omaha area. Participating restaurants will donate a portion of their profits from the evening directly to the Omaha chapter of the American Heart Association. A list of "Girls’ Night Out" participating restaurants can be found on The Cardiac Center website at http://thecardiaccenter.creighton.edu.

National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 3, 2006. On this day, millions of Americans will be wearing red to show their support for women and the fight against heart disease. By wearing red on National Wear Red Day, you can help the American Heart Association raise awareness of heart disease and inspire women to take charge of their heart health. To celebrate, The Cardiac Center and CUMC are hosting three Wear Red Receptions on Friday, February 3rd. For a $5 donation, you will receive a "From My Heart to Yours" pin. Pins can be purchased at The Cardiac Center front desk or in the Business Development office at CUMC.

Wear the pin and red clothing on Friday, February 3rd, and you will be admitted to one of three Wear Red receptions being held that day:

CUMC
Board Room
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Cardiac Center
Auditorium
2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Cake and beverages will be served at all three receptions. All money raised will go to the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. For more information, contact Ginny Hermann at 280-5920.
