Creighton University Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is hosting an event to help parents teach their kids to make healthy food choices and become more active. The seminar, “Encouraging Healthy Behaviors in Your Child,” will be held Thursday, June 10, 2004 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the second floor board room at the Omaha Public School’s TAC Building, 3215 Cuming Street. The event is free and open to the public.

According to the Prevention.com web site, more than nine million American children are considered obese. The American Academy of Pediatrics has warned that pediatric obesity has reached epidemic proportions.

KETV’s Margaret Bumann will host the event. Topics include: “Influencing Healthy Eating Habits: How To Set Goals and Stick To Them;” “Experiences of the Pediatrician/Mother;” “Healthy Behaviors: How To Get Kids Motivated;” and “Health Risks of the Inactive Child.” Child care and Spanish interpretation will be available, and activity and recreation exhibitors will also be on hand.

The program is funded in part by Maternal Child Health funds through the Hope Medical Outreach Coalition Healthy Kids Project, Creighton University Medical Center’s Partnership in Health and the Healthy Kids Collaborative.
