Creighton’s department of Allergy and Immunology is currently conducting research investigating the effectiveness and safety of a drug called Xolair (omalizumab) in treating patients who have an allergic reaction to peanuts. Xolair has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of asthma, but researchers are now testing to see if it is also safe and effective in preventing allergic reaction to peanut products.

The principal investigator is Thomas B. Casale, M.D., director of Clinical Research and chief of Allergy/Immunology at Creighton University Medical Center. Creighton is currently recruiting participants between the ages of 12 and 75 to assist in this research. Other than having a peanut allergy, participants should be in good general health. Reimbursement of certain expenses will be available to qualified individuals. People interested in enrolling in the study may call 402-280-5975.
