Tim Grollmes, MPA, health education researcher at the Cardiac Center at
Creighton University has received certification from the University of
Massachusetts Medical Center as a tobacco treatment specialist. Grollmes is director of the Commit to Quit tobacco cessation program at the Creighton Cardiac Center and chair of the Douglas County Cardiovascular Health Initiative (DCCHI). He has been with the Cardiac Center since 2000, and has managed numerous wellness programs and support groups. Grollmes' certification makes Creighton’s Commit to Quit tobacco treatment program eligible for Medicare reimbursement. In July, recognizing that smoking cessation counseling is reasonable and necessary for a patient with tobacco related illness, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services decided to cover up to eight smoking cessation sessions per year. The "Commit to Quit class prepares people to quit," Grollmes said. "It walks them through, tells them how to get ready mentally, physically and spiritually." In addition to the classes, Grollmes also coordinates support groups and meets with patients individually. "It's never too late to quit," he said. Contact Tim Grollmes at 402-280-5287 or tgrollmes@cardiac.creighton.edu for more information. |
