S. Pirzada Sattar, M.D., has been named one of ten National Fellows by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Sattar is assistant professor of Psychiatry and medical director of the Institute for Medicine & Law at Creighton University Medical Center. He is also director of the Substance Abuse Treatment Center at the Omaha VA Hospital.

Dr. Sattar has been awarded more than $100,000 to underwrite his participation in the "Developing Leadership in Reducing Substance Abuse" (LRSA) program. Each LRSA Fellow selects a senior mentor to guide at least one project. LRSA Fellows work across a range of disciplines, including education, policy development, research, clinical treatment and political and legal advocacy. Dr. Sattar plans to study the legislative trends in laws pertaining to substance abuse and the development of laws for involuntary commitment of dangerous substance abusers.

"We need to advocate more for the substance abusers and substance abuse treatment programs at public gatherings and with the legislature," said Dr.
Sattar. "This will lead to increased general awareness among the public and even the lawmakers, on the severity of this problem and can translate into more support for this issue." Robert Wood Johnson devoted his life to public service and to building the small, but innovative, family firm of Johnson & Johnson into the worldıs largest health and medical care products conglomerate. He left most of his immense fortune to the foundation that bears his name, creating one of the worldıs largest private philanthropies that seeks to improve the health and health care of all Americans.
