While pregnancy is typically a time of joyous anticipation, for those experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, it can be a time of great uncertainty and stress. The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine's Center for Fetal Care is one of many centers of excellence that brings patients to Creighton University Medical Center from all over the region.
The Center for Fetal Care at Creighton University Medical Center offers:
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists (perinatologists) trained in prenatal screening, diagnosis, and in-utero therapy
- State-of-the-art ultrasound equipment
- Registered sonographers and Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists who perform Level II ultrasounds
- First-Trimester Down syndrome screening, certified by the NTQR (Nuchal Translucency Quality Review) program
- Services that include antepartum fetal testing, prenatal screening and diagnosis, in-utero diagnosis and treatment, preconceptional consultation, and patient education
Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists collaborate with neonatologists, physicians who assume the care of the baby as soon as it is born should it require specialized care. With an average of 12 years' experience in their field, the neonatologists staff Creighton's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) - the highest level unit of its kind.
Creighton University Medical Center and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology support the efforts of the March of Dimes through several initiatives, including serving as the presenting sponsor of the 2007 Prematurity Summit, a meeting of healthcare professionals and families affected by prematurity. We were also actively involved in this year's WalkAmerica fundraiser and in the Nebraska Excellence in Nursing awards' ceremony.
