Easter Seals Nebraska
is an
organization that provides aide to individuals with
disabilities and special needs and their caregivers. PIG has
been asked to help out at their mini-camp respite weekends,
which allows kids to experience the joys and challenges of
camp in a fully-accessible setting. Campers gain independent
and social interaction skills while participating in a
variety of fun, adapted activities. AND their caregivers get
a break to relax and recharge.
Volunteers have a blast from
tossing water balloons to playing bean bags, and
just talking with the kids at Camp Easter Seal.
The counselors are incredibly appreciative of
our time and the kids are so sweet, you would
never know they had just met us hours before.
These kids have a wide range of backgrounds and
have so much to offer to us!
We have two volunteer opportunities: 1. Attend a
half day (depending on what works for the
majority of the people signing up) and help run
games and activities for the campers. OR
2. Stay the whole weekend and be a one-on-one or
two aide for the campers. This would require
training as you would be helping the campers
with daily life activities such as using the
restroom, transferring in and out of chairs/bed,
helping getting dressed, eating, etc.

26-28, 2013
